On behalf of the organization September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows, we would like to extend to you our condolences for your fallen sister, Shaima Alawadi. Her death was a hate crime, pure and simple, and a horrendous act of unnatural violence. We cannot imagine the pain, sadness and fear your community must be feeling in the wake of such a tragedy.
Please know that while it once again seems that our nation has lost its moorings to the sacred principles of religious tolerance on which it was founded, there are still many in the US who share your grief, and condemn such despicable acts. Our nation is poorer today for the loss of this one human being, a woman whose death is now yet another sad symbol of how important religious tolerance education continues to be in this country.
We wish you only the best, and want you to know that it is our belief that followers of Islam must always be welcome in the US. We sincerely hope that this extension of friendship and support will in some small way engender healing for you in the days ahead.
Shalom, Assalam Alaikam, Peace,
Nancy Meyer and the members of September 11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrows
