We extend our deepest condolences to the families of victims and support to those injured and reeling from the truck attack In NYC. In the wake of such senseless violence, we are heartened by the strength of community in such an immense city and the mobilization of individuals near and far to provide comfort and assistance.
This tragedy did not arise due to a faulty immigration policy. The roots of the attack lie in calls to use violence that spur troubled individuals. Some of these individuals have been immigrants, while many more have been Americans from birth. We need to support those injured and their families, many of whom are foreign-born. Let us protect our residents by not fueling hatred of those who may be different from ourselves. Above all, let us never see violence as the appropriate means to advance any cause.
