Finding Our Voices is a feature-length documentary that introduces the audience to peaceful patriots, including members of Peaceful Tomorrows, who march, sacrifice their jobs, risk imprisonment, and face ridicule to act for a peaceful world, reminding us that passion for justice and commitment to a cooperative and peaceful world is possible, and that any and all of us can wage peace. The film explores their causes and their lives, presenting their common convictions and their myriad diversity. We look at their dissent in response to the world-shattering events of September 11th 2001 and the U.S. invasion of Iraq with its subsequent occupation in the context of history, constitutional rights, and the changing face of law and policy; most importantly, we document their desire to create a better future for their children and grandchildren.
In a nation where almost half of the population questioned from the outset the U.S. invasion of Iraq, and wherein now more than half see it as wrong, it seems obvious that we should see, and hear the voices, of those who have publicly spoken and acted against that war. FINDING OUR VOICES presents their story. In a society that at best marginalizes dissent and at worst condemns it to ridicule and even active suppression … they pick up the banner of idealism.
The fine cut of the film is finished, the last round of fundraising is underway and the film will be released the week of March 13, 2008! For clips from the film, go to: http://www.findingourvoices.com. Go directly to an excerpt of Adele Welty from the film.
