Families of 9/11 Victims Support President’s Guantanamo Proposal

Today President Obama announced that Ash Carter and the Department of Defense will go forward with a plan to finally close Guantanamo Bay.  The members of September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows firmly support this long overdue initiative to follow the American Rule of Law and the United States Constitution. Guantanamo and the Military Commissions do not do justice to the enormity of the 9/11 crimes.
We are proud that President Obama is finally re-committing to a promise he made to the American people seven years ago, a promise to be moral, to be ethical and to follow the ideals of American jurisprudence.  We have a system of criminal justice within federal courts that has served us as citizens of the world for over 200 years.  It is more than time, to honor our own highest principles.
