Our Statement On The Situation In Afghanistan

The Peaceful Tomorrows community is profoundly distressed by the uncertain future awaiting the people of Afghanistan. We came together in the wake of losing loved ones in the violent attack of September 11, 2001, determined to voice our opposition to war and support for civilians everywhere who bear the weight of devastating losses.

In 2008, our briefing paper: “Afghanistan, Ending A Failed Military Strategy” https://peacefultomorrows.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Afghanistan-Briefing-Paper.pdf forecast the ultimate tragedy of the US approach in Afghanistan.  After nearly twenty years, we continue to yearn for peace at home and abroad.

In the present moment, we urgently call for

  • increased action to evacuate all who are at risk in Afghanistan and seeking to leave,
  • safe land corridors to open borders with support provided for those who choose to leave, and
  • adequate support for all Afghans at risk whether in or out of Afghanistan.

We call for an immediate and continuing ceasefire and for all parties to the war in Afghanistan to work for a just and sustainable peace.
