Our Letter To Obama-December 2014 re: Torture

December 8, 2014

Dear President Obama,
September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows decries the use of torture for any purpose.

We are family members who have been waiting for over thirteen years for the five men accused of being 9-11 conspirators to be brought to true justice.
Although legal technicalities account for part of the delay at Guantánamo, the main reason the trial may never happen is because of torture. Our government does not want to confront the implications of illegal acts of torture committed in the name of security. Rule of law is the only path to genuine security.
As Americans, we must be courageous and honest enough to confront our past. Evidence detailing both the crimes of September 11th and the treatment of those captured after September 11th must be heard.
For our sake and for our country’s sake, we beseech you to take action and finally release the report of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. The truth is imperative for our collective national healing and the ability to move forward.
