Offering A Path To More Peaceful Tomorrows

SEPTEMBER 2018

OUR WORK:
September 11: Peaceful Tomorrows is co-sponsoring the annual Palo Alto Multifaith Picnic of the American Muslim Voice to commemorate 9/11. We are delighted to have Antonio Aversano represent us again this year.
September 11: We are honored that the award winning documentary, In Our Son’s Name, is being screened twice at Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC. Gayla Jamison, the filmmaker, will be at the event to answer your questions together with attending PT members. This will be a powerful opportunity to connect with the members of the Emanuel Episcopal Church, which is co-sponsoring the events. They view the film as a meaningful way to commemorate 9/11 by tying in their recovery from the horrific June 17, 2015 mass shooting that killed eight parishioners at this church with such a rich history of confronting racism and uniting community through reconciliation.

September 16: PTer, Loretta Filipov, is inviting you to her annual Al Filipov Peace and Justice Forum event in Concord, MA. The Forum will honor the work of UTEC for their work with young adults ages 17-25 to reduce recidivism and increase educational attainment.

GUANTANAMO COMMITTEE:
Military Commission Pretrial Hearings are scheduled for United States vs. Khalid Shaikh Mohammad et. al., on September 10-14, 2018. More pretrial hearings are scheduled for two weeks in November: 1) Nov 3-10 and 2) Nov 10-17. Please contact the Guantánamo Committee if you’d like to represent Peaceful Tomorrows at these hearings.
IN THE NEWS:  Army Col. James Pohl – the 9-11 commission judge, is retiring as of September 30, 2018. Pohl has named Marine Col. Keith Parrella to replace him. How this move will further delay the start of the 9-11 trial is unknown. CLICK HERE to read more.
