Iraqi Christians Doomed by Administration

We urge President Trump halt the deportations of the over 100 Iraqi Christians swept up in ICE raids in the Detroit area. The U.S. has previously declared crimes against the Chaldeans in Iraq genocide, but is now preparing to send these Christians back to face persecution and death.

Pastor Khader El-Yateem, running for NYC Council, said “I am outraged that in 2017 we are rounding up innocent people and deporting them back to unsafe environments. As a Christian I believe it is our duty to have compassion and to treat everyone with dignity. These men and women who fled to the US from Iraq were hoping to find sanctuary in a country founded on these same values. They deserve for us to practice what we preach. Sending them back means sentencing them to death.”

Many of the deportation orders are decades old for minor crimes such as possession of marijuana. The President has the power to act in a compassionate manner, and failure to do so is will mark a new low in American justice.
