It’s Been 15 Years

Dear Friends:

September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows deeply appreciate your support throughout the years. We remember those days after September 11, 2001 when our country was shrouded in fear and sorrow. Just as acutely, we remember those small acts of kindness and outreach that began to pierce that shroud. Those small acts of compassion, those voices of sincerity and concern; they became our guiding stars in a time of great darkness.

We know others suffered then as well. Nineteen men dared to claim to represent an entire religion, and their murderous actions must never be seen as characterizing Islam. We know the Muslim community suffers toady as well, in a renewed climate of fear and bigotry.

We ask that you, the peace honoring people, take our hand in an extension of friendship. Let us walk together, bound to one another in ways that are so much more alike than different. Let us walk down the path of tolerance; hand in hand, and search together for nonviolent solutions in a world of cyclical violence. Let us protect our civilian brothers and sisters, and work together for the day when all armed conflict will be obsolete and illegal. Let us look forward to the tomorrows that will bring peace to everyone, in our own hearts, in our families, our communities, our country and our world.

Come friend. We have much work to do. Not just today but each and every day, remembering all the while the words of Dr. King, “The arc of the universe is long, but it bends towards justice.”
