We Continue #peacebuilding

OCTOBER 2017

Our Work:

PT member, Antonio Aversano, represented us at a Multifaith Picnic in Palo Alto, CA on September 11. Abdus Sattar Ghazali, Executive Editor of the American Muslim Perspective, wrote about the event: “….The highlight of the program was a personal heartwarming story by Antonio Aversano, the son of Louis F. Aversano Jr., who was killed….on September 11, 2001. Feeling “broken open” by that life changing experience, Antonio found hope and inspiration in joining September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows, deeply resonating with their simple mission of “turning our grief into actions for peace.”

The PT Afghanistan Committee has decided to support the Duvet and the Street Kids School Project led by the Afghan Peace Volunteers with a grant this year. The Duvet Project is an effort led by the Afghan Peace Volunteers that gives duvets to destitute families in Kabul. It also gives women an opportunity to earn living wages for sewing duvets. Funds for the project go towards the supplies and sewing of the duvets.

Peaceful Tomorrows members joined in a heartfelt commemoration of Betsy Sawyer, the Courage of Conscious winning teacher from Groton, MA who spearheaded the Bookmakers and Dreamers Club in which students created the world’s largest book on peace. Lewis M. Randa, Founder of the Peace Abbey, and long-time Peaceful Tomorrows colleague, gave a beautiful tribute highlighting how the youth’s vision should be heeded in leading us towards a peaceful future. Featuring PT voices, the Big Book of Peace is heading towards the International Rotary Club!
