UPCOMING EVENTS:

The Big Book: Pages For Peace celebration and ceremony is happening in Groton, MA at the Groton-Dunstable Middle School Performing Arts Center, 344 Main Street on Saturday, June 2 from 11am-1pm. SC member Robyn Bernstein will attend and represent PT.

Pax Christi Metro New York is holding their Annual Peacemaker Awards Reception in New York on Sunday, June 3, 2012. PT members are welcome to join. In October 2011, Pax Christi MA gave the award to PT member Colleen Kelly.

PT members are invited to participate in the 10th Annual James Parks Morton Awards Dinner organized by the Interfaith Center of New York to be held on June 11, 2012.

PT Media Chair: Donna M. O’Connor is now our Media Chair. Donna has an updated list (pt-speakers@lists.peacefultomorrows.org) of those willing to speak to the press. If you would like to add your field of interest or the topics that you are most interested in addressing, please send Donna an e-mail.

Afghanistan Committee: Ellen Judd is now Chair of PT’s Afghanistan Committee and PT’s liaison with UFPJ’s Afghanistan Working Group. Please contact Ellen directly if you would like to join this committee or be added to the  afghanistan@lists.peacefultomorrows.org list.

Rule of Law (RoL) Campaign: June 22nd kicks off the National Week of Action Against Torture, Guantanamo and the NDAA:
How can you be involved? Well, there are lots of options!
Friday, June 22nd: National Call-in Day to the White House & Congress.
Saturday, June 23rd: National Tweet-in Day to the White House & Congress.
Sunday, June 24th: Peaceful Tomorrows is a co-sponsor of the March and Demonstration in Washington, DC against Torture, Guantanamo and the NDAA.
Tuesday, June 26th: International Day in Support of Victims of Torture – Register a vigil in your community.

NATO-Free Counter-Summit in Chicago: PT members Ellen Judd and Terry Rockefeller attended the event on May 18 and 19, making and renewing connections with peace and justice groups around the U.S. and internationally, including United for Peace and Justice, Afghans for Peace and Voices for Creative Nonviolence. Terry spoke to the plenum about PT’s work and an upcoming campaign in solidarity with Iraqis to regulate private military and security contractors and demand accountability for their human rights abuses and indiscriminate killing of civilians. On May 20, Ellen and Terry also attended the Amnesty International Shadow Summit for Afghan Women’s Rights and spoke with PT friend Afifa Azim of the Afghan Women’s Network before joining the Iraq Veterans Against the War March for Justice and Reconciliation.
