We Continue Our Work to Close #gitmo

JANUARY 2018

Guantánamo Convening Authority: Next week, we will be sending messages from 9-11 family members to the staff of Guantánamo’s Convening Authority. The Convening Authority is the person appointed by the Department of Defense who oversees all aspects of legal proceedings and staff at Guantánamo, currently Mr. Harvey Rishikof. To help them truly understand family concerns, frustration, or accolades
we will be adding our voices to the conversation. Please contact Colleen Kelly with any further questions.

January 11: PT and our allies at Witness Against Torture are marking yet another year of the operation of the U.S. prison at Guantánamo. PT member, Terry Rockefeller, will speak and represent us at the DC event while Terry Greene will attend the Boston Interfaith rally. Events are planned in Washington; Manhasset, NY; Los Angeles and Boston. These are powerful events that bring together an array of allies working to SHUT IT DOWN! #humanbeingsforever. CLICK HERE to find an event near you.

Art From Guantánamo: John Jay College has organized an art exhibition “Ode To The Sea” with art pieces created by inmates at the U.S. military prison camp. The exhibit can be seen until January 26, 2018. PT member, Phyllis Rodriguez, will give a talk at John Jay College on January 22. Please contact the PT office for more details.

Call For Action Around The Olympic Truce: We ask you to individually sign the petition and support Diplomacy Not War. An e-mail to Catherine Killough at Ploughshares will suffice. September Eleventh Families for Peaceful Tomorrows has signed the petition already. Thank you!
